    lemon scented multipurpose cleanser

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Cleaning should be simple and hassle free, not to mention safe! If you want to avoid some of the most toxic ingredients on the market and save money, ditch the brand name cleaning products! Instead, go green by making your own homemade multipurpose cleaners with just a few common household items.

There’s a very long list of harsh ingredients found in everyday disinfecting products that are doing us more harm than good. Check the labels and if you see ingredients that you can’t pronounce such as common culprits like diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), butyl cellosolve, and diethylene glycol, then avoid them! On top of that scary stuff, fragrance chemicals and ammonia are top triggers for asthma and migraines. Not to mention, all of these toxic ingredients find their way down the drain inevitably harming the environment.

It sounds unbelievable, but there are no laws requiring manufacturers of cleaning products to list harmful ingredients on labels or test them for safety. So it’s up to you to keep your home safe. Vinegar, rubbing alcohol, witch hazel, and castile soap are great starting points. Plus essential oils like lemon, orange, lavender, and peppermint are all natural disinfectants that can tackle nearly every household mess.

    lemon scented multipurpose cleaner

Use this cleaner throughout your kitchen and bathroom on everything from floors, mirrors, counter tops and appliances, but not on granite or marble counter tops! These surfaces are porous and can be damaged easily with acidic ingredients like vinegar or harsh chemicals like bleach.

    Ingredients

    • 1 C water
    • 1 C white vinegar
    • ¼ C witch hazel
    • 20 drops lemon essential oil

    Instructions

    • Pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle. Using a funnel will make this easier, but it’s not necessary. Shake before use.
