    bathroom cleaners

    DIY bathroom cleaners_hot for food

Here's a reality check. You don't need to clean your bathroom with toxic bleach sprays and harsh anti-bacterial agents. I use less than 5 ingredients to clean my entire bathroom! This is way better for the environment (obviously) as well as your own health. Plus it's also super cheap and easy, so I encourage you to give this a try... even though I know you don't like cleaning. Who does?

hot tip: to cut down on waste and cost, always reuse sponges as much as possible. Just throw them on the lower rack of the dishwasher when you run it. Alternatively if you don't have a dishwasher, let your sponges soak in the sink for a while with hot water and a few drops of castile soap.

    bathtub, tile & sink cleaner

Clean your bathroom the natural way with 5 ingredients or less!
    Author Lauren Toyota

    Ingredients

    • 1 C salt
    • 1 C baking soda

    Instructions

    • Combine the salt and baking soda together in a jar or container. You can half the amounts depending on the size of your container. I find it easy to save one of these spice shakers with the holes on top for even distribution!
    • To use, wet the tub and tiles with a biodegradable and reusable sponge. Then sprinkle this mixture around the tub and use the sponge to scrub off the soap scum. Just sprinkle some more on the sponge to scrub the tiles running up the walls of your shower.  Rinse off with warm water.

If your tub is extra dirty (but please don't let it get that way!) you can spray a light layer of white vinegar on the tub and tiles first and then go through with the salt and baking soda mixture.

Do the same thing in the bathroom sink basin. And avoid scrubbing this mixture on the taps and faucet so you don't scratch the finishes. You'll use the multi-purpose cleaner below to get water stains off of those.

    toilet bowl disinfectant

You can make your toilet sparkling and clean with 2 simple ingredients.
    Author Lauren Toyota

    Ingredients

    • 1 C white vinegar
    • ¼ C baking soda

    Instructions

    • Pour both ingredients into the toilet bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then scrub with a toilet brush to get the remaining dirt and stains lifted. Toilet brushes tend to splash out of the bowl so you can also just get right in there with rubber gloves and some paper towel to get the underside of the toilet bowl. I try not to use paper towel often but sometimes it's good just for this task!
